Through e-MAP project, Survey Department has successfully launched the Brunei Darussalam Spatial Data Infrastructure (BSDI). The BSDI is one of the main modules in the e-MAP project which is one of the e-Government projects under Ministry of Development coordinated by Survey as Leading Agency, together with Land and Town and Country Planning.
The launching was done by Guest of Honour, Minister of Development, Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Abdullah Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar at Bilik Betabur, Ministry of Development on the 23 rd April 2008.
The Brunei Spatial Data Infrastructure (BSDI) is the technology, standards, access system and protocols necessary to harmonise all of the Sultanate's geospatial databases and make them available on the Internet.
As with many National SDI initiatives the goals of BSDI are to:
- Reduce duplication of effort among agencies as it relates to geospatial data
- Provide a common means to share and access geographical data among all users
- Improve quality and reduce costs related to geographic information
- Facilitate the establishment of key partnerships with government agencies, academia, public and the private sector to increase data availability
- Improve decision making by helping people better understanding their situations, challenges, opportunities and potential solutions.
